Developed to be the most reader-friendly program for middle/high school students to help improve reading.

I have taught language arts and reading for over 18 years. In the process, I've learned a lot from my students. Too many are reading below grade level. They have trouble summarizing what has been read. They may begin a book but rarely finish it. They read only when they have to. They believe the movie version of a book is better than the book itself. Sound familiar? Those students who need to read the most have become our reluctant readers.

How will our students survive in today's world where excellent reading skills are a necessity? Students need to be skillful readers in order to reach their goals. Our students can read, this is not the problem. The problem arises when students get into higher grades (middle/high school) and the reading becomes increasingly more difficult. Students who have stopped somewhere around a 4th or 5th grade reading level begin to find the reading requirements too challenging because they are grades below the reading level of the textbooks they are required to read. Advance Your Reading Power was written to help students discover many different strategies they should incorporate to read more fluently, skillfully, and at a higher level.

Advance Your Reading Power was written for students with students in mind.

The book is written at a 4th-5th grade reading level (few exceptions).

Text is reader-friendly with double spacing and a size 13 font.

Chapters have a 3-5 sentence review summarizing the chapter.

A skill builder at the end of each chapter contains a reading skill students should practice every time they read.
